Honouring a Legacy of Resilience, Passion, and Community
Bradley Scott Blenkhorn of Amherst, Nova Scotia, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2025, at the age of 44. A devoted father, dedicated coach, proud athlete, and beloved member of the community, Brad left a mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed for his big smile, his presence, and his devotion to his family.
Brad sacrificed a lot for his family over the past 20 years. To say he was a bit stubborn is an understatement, as he faced more than his share of health crises, and this only made him stronger each time. Second only to his love for his children, he had a profound love of sports. He started hockey at age 3, wanting to check like his big brother. He played T-ball and Little League through to senior baseball.
He attended RHDH—graduating in 1999—playing soccer and on the basketball team that won several provincial championships, making many lasting friendships along the way. After high school, he decided to go back to hockey and became a member of the Canadian Standing Amputee Hockey Team, winning four world titles.
Most recently, he found his calling as a coach of girls’ basketball. He spent many hours on the court and was known for his commitment to the development of the whole player—not just as an athlete, but as a well-rounded person. He touched many young lives through the Jr. Mounties basketball program.
Brad’s strength was matched only by his resilience. He faced numerous health challenges with determination and grit, always putting his family first. He was a devoted father to Sydney, Vivienne, Eliza, and Malcolm, and he treasured time spent at the family cottage in Tidnish—especially around the bonfire, surrounded by love.
The Brad Blenkhorn Memorial Bursary has been established to honour Brad’s legacy. This annual bursary will support a graduating member of the Jr. Mounties Basketball Program and/or a student athlete from River Hebert District High School—reflecting Brad’s enduring commitment to youth, sport, and education.
Your donation will help carry forward Brad’s spirit of perseverance, mentorship, and community. Together, we can ensure his impact continues to shine in the lives of young athletes for years to come.
